Inmate Text App
If you have a family member who is currently incarcerated, the best way to stay connected with them is via an inmate-texting app. These apps are designed to comply with prison rules and allow family members and friends to send messages, photos and video calls, eCards and money to their trust accounts at prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are numerous federal inmate apps that offer additional services like video visitation and phone calls.
JPay, for example allows friends and family members to send money directly into an inmate's trust account. It also allows videos, emails, photos, and electronic cards. They can also design personal postcards using their own photos. It also provides a safer and more secure alternative to traditional postal mail.
Another popular texting application for inmates is GettingOut. It provides "simple reliable and secure communication" between inmates and their loved family members. The app, which is available in certain correctional facilities, lets inmates upload photos and message their friends and families via their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 per message, and loved ones pay for the data that they use to view their messages (but not for explicit images). The GettingOut app allows you to upload a photo to Facebook or Foursquare and then check in to Foursquare and then add the option of a YouTube video.
